The big day is almost here! On Monday, January 10th, the 2011 winners of the ALA Youth Media Awards will be announced during ALA's Midwinter Meeting in San Diego. If you're as geeky as me, you'll be glad to know that you can watch it LIVE from the comfort of your home! Just bookmark this link, where you can go Monday morning to get a virtual seat at the conference. The announcements start at 7:45 AM PST the morning of the conference (which is 10:45 AM for those of us on EST). Be sure to log on early, because apparently there are only a limited number of virtual seats.
Be prepared for about a 50-60 minute commitment; the Newbery awards are announced at the very end. If you can't get in or don't want to watch for that long, then just check right here Monday morning and I'll put the results up as soon as they're announced! You can also visit this link for the Youth Media Awards press kit.
I noticed that if you visit the live viewing link now, you can watch the 2010 announcements in their entirety. There's rather a lot of cheering from a bunch librarians at 8 AM! For a quick snippet of that excitement, here's a video of just the 2010 Newbery announcements posted by editor Alvina Ling.
For more information on the live announcements, visit ALA's press release.
